Oracle
Surge is dependent on highly accurate, low latency pricing information for all the assets that are available for trading. This data is provided by an Oracle. At present, Surge utilises Pyth as it's Oracle, but has been designed in such a way that in future, alternative providers may be substituted in the event that a superior service is identified.
The job of the Oracle is to ensure that price information of all assets on Surge are robust and reliable, as all trades and actions are dependent on the accuracy of these prices.
Surge Keepers are responsible for regularly passing the latest pricing information from the Oracle to the Surge exchange.
Pyth Oracle
The Pyth Oracle provides real-time price feeds based on data provided by over 95 reputable providers including exchanges such as Binance, Kucoin and Gate, along with some of the most prominent market making firms. This data is then aggregated multiple times per second.
Over 450 price feeds are currently available to Surge, covering a multitude of asset classes such as US equities, commodities and cryptocurrencies.
Pyth not only provides price data but also a proof of the price, incorporating a digital signature and timestamp which assures the authenticity and timeliness of the data.
